Experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE) is the model most commonly used to study efficacy of potential drugs for treatment of multiple sclerosis (MS).
Because of its many similarities to MS, EAE is used to study pathogenesis of autoimmunity, CNS inflammation, demyelination, cell trafficking and tolerance induction.
EAE is characterized by paralysis (in some models the paralysis is remitting-relapsing), CNS inflammation and demyelination. EAE is mediated by myelin-specific CD4+ T cells, but CD8+ cells and B cells may also play a role in some models of EAE.
We offer three antigens for induction of EAE:
- MOG35-55 – recommended for study of onset and development of EAE
- MOG1-125 – recommended for testing therapeutics which target B-cells
- PLP139-151 – recommended for study of EAE relapses

PLP139-151/CFA Emulsion (PTX) for EAE induction in SJL mice
Recommended for study of EAE relapses.
Induction with pertussis toxin (PTX) leads to higher incidence and severity of EAE in the first wave, but lower severity of relapse compared to induction without PTX.
EK-0120 or EK-0121 is recommended for studies primarily focusing on the relapse phase of EAE. EK-0123 is more suitable for evaluation of the initial wave of EAE. For more detailed information, see the recommended protocol.
